Quite the morning

This picture was taken shortly before she had a massive diaper blowout, spit up extravaganza, and tinkle party that required a full bath and it's own load of laundry to remedy. In all seriousness, it had been a really fun morning- this kid is hilarious!

Happy Two Month Birthday, Julia

Dear Julia,

Happy two month birthday, baby girl! I can't believe how much you've grown in the last month.

We had a busy month!

El Guapo came to visit from Philadelpha. He spent lots of time bouncing you on his knee- his signature move. We walked around the lake, had dinner out, and had some really great talks. It was a great trip, but it was a too short!

You came with me to my office holiday lunch party, and you slept through the whole thing! My coworkers passed you around like a sack of potatoes.

We also had our first playdate. I met J and her husband at our lamaze class, and you are five days older than their little boy, Asher. You and Asher both slept the entire time, but I had a great time talking to Asher's mom because you two are going through a lot of the same things at the same time. We're going to see them again this week.

This month also saw your first Christmas! Daddy and I were both sick with colds and coughs in the two weeks before Christmas, but we both felt better by the big day. We went to church on Christmas Eve, and you wore a beautiful dress from your Nana Judy.

Pretty, but not entirely happy, girl

When we got home, I cooked a special dinner and we all opened presents! Your Daddy gave you a pair of pink and white checkered Vans shoes and some great toys. Santa brought you a beautiful crystal star ornament with your name engraved on it.

We got up early on Christmas Day and drove to Bryan to spend the day with Meemaw and Papaw. You got lots of really cute clothes from your aunts. On Christmas night, you slept in the cradle that Papaw and Daddy both used when they were little boys.

The next morning, we got up really early and hit the road- we drove 11 hours to visit your great grandparents and the rest of Daddy's family in Osceola, Arkansas. Everyone was so excited to meet you! You were in someone's arms all week long. Your great aunts went bonkers with the cute clothes!

For New Year's Eve, we were back in Austin. Meemaw and Papaw drove down from Bryan at lunch time to bring the dogs home along with the rest of your Christmas presents. You went to bed around 9:30, and we followed at 11:00. It was a very happy, if mellow, New Year's Eve.

Today we had your two month check up at the doctor's office. You weigh 12 pounds 15 ounces, and you are 23.5 inches long- 90th percentile for both height and weight. Dr. Getman says you're doing great- a healthy, happy baby girl!

You've changed so much in the last month. You are definitely no longer a newborn. You've outgrown the newborn insert for the car seat, you've been out of newborn clothes for weeks, and you're now almost out of 0-3 month clothes.

You are so alert most of the day! You are bright-eyed and interested in the world. You have mastered the art of the social smile, flashing your big grin several times a day. You have also become quite a flirt- you bat your eyelashes and coo on a regular basis. You discovered your hands and fingers during the week between Christmas and New Year's- you now spend a lot of time gumming your wrists, feeling your face, and holding my hand. In fact, we frequently hold hands while you nurse, which I treasure beyond words.

You're sleeping really well. Starting around December 20th, you've had no less than 5 hours at a time, usually more like 6 or 7. It's great! You are not a big fan of daytime naps, which I hope will change as time goes on.

Daddy and I both sing to you. I tend to choose more traditional lullabies or Beatles tunes, while Daddy makes up songs or sings songs with crazy lyrics in a really funny voice.

Your Daddy and I love watching you. You make some fantastic faces. Your complexion changes so much during the day- you look like a pasty white vampire baby while you sleep, you get really red in the face when you're doing your bathroom business, and you get a lovely rosy glow on your cheeks while you're eating. Speaking of bathroom business, you are LOUD! People holding you frequently think you did some business, but we have to assure them that they would KNOW if you had (click here to see a video that cracks me up). Your cousin Taylor didn't believe us, but once she had the full experience, she said it felt like an atomic bomb. I know you're going to die of embarrassment someday when you read this, but that's life. Sorry in advance!

Since you are awake for so much more time during the day, you have become much more playful. Your Daddy started imitating the sounds you make, and now the two of you spend a lot of time having deep and meaningful conversations.

When you're fussy, your Daddy can often stop your crying by taking you running- pumping your legs back and forth really fast.

You can follow toys with your eyes, and you love bathtime.

Your Daddy is very silly and the two of you have a lot of fun playing together.

Julia, you are an amazing little girl. Even though you've only been with us for two short months, neither of us can figure out what we did before you arrived.

I love you, doodle bug!

Sorry for the irregular posting - hopefully things will get better now that we're home and caught up on laundry! :)
