Big day!

After the pumpkin patch, Meemaw and Pawpaw came to celebrate Julia's birthday early. They brought two fantastic toys, including the dancing alligator in this picture, and two beautiful outfits. Thanks!!!!

Pumpkin party

We went to Robin's pumpkin carving party tonight!

One year minus one week!

No picture, just a quick post.  I can't believe how big Julia is!  She's wearing size 24 month/2T clothes.  Some are a little big, but not as big as I was hoping for. :-)

Skeleton robot

It's Halloween carnival day st Julia's school, so we dressed appropriately this morning. She also danced a little- see video below. She was very cute, if a little wobbly.

How did it get to be Friday??

Here are two walking videos to make up for the lack of posts this week- both taken on Wednesday night.

Getting out of the bath

Julia loves getting out of the bath, partly because she loves checking out that cute baby in the mirror.

First walk from the car to the house

Happened yesterday afternoon. It took a while. :)

More of that rocking chair.

Here's a longish video of Julia enjoying her rocking chair!  She can get in and out all by herself.

Sign Language

Julia is getting pretty good at communicating a few things that she has signs for.

(waving her hands like that means "all done!")

Julia loves her red rocking chair!

Meemaw, thanks for painting it!!

Getting ready for Halloween!

Contrary to what my dad the beekeeper may think, bees do have bones. They appear to be white on a pink background. And bees appear to wear orange jack-o-lantern socks.

Happy 10 AND 11 month birthdays, Julia!

Dear Julia,

I'm sorry that months 10 and 11 are combined, but we've had a busy couple months! Work is still busy for your parents. My work seems to be slowing down a little bit, but Daddy's seems to be getting busier. We've also been sick off and on, which hasn't helped at all!

You started in the yellow (young toddler) room at school on August 1, right before the start of your 10th month. You're doing great! You like hanging out will the bigger kids, and you fit right in. You're no longer the baby in the room, either- there are now 2 kiddos younger than you in the yellow room. Your teachers are great, and they love you. In fact, one week four teachers at your school stopped me to tell me that you were the happiest, most wonderful baby they'd ever seen. That made me feel pretty great! A couple weeks ago you kept coming home with bite marks- one of the bigger kids kept biting you. You have since figured out how to defend yourself, which is great.

We've had lots of fun activities in the last two months. We went to the Children's Museum for the first time in early August, and you really liked that. We'll need to go back one day soon so you can play more now that you're standing up and almost walking.

We also moved you in to your big girl carseat, since you're so tall!

You survived the hottest summer in Austin history, with 90 days of 100+ degree temperatures, and 132 consecutive days above 90 degrees. It was hot. You handled it all in great style, spending plenty of time in your inflatable pool! Boy, do you love the water!

On a very exciting but less fun note, we also had our first trip to the emergency room just a few days before you turned 11 months old. You were sitting on your knees in the kitchen, bouncing up and down, when you threw your arms over your head and flopped down onto your belly. You hit your face, near your eye, on the kitchen cabinet pull pretty hard and cut your face. The doctor used some special glue to close up your cut, and that was that! You healed really quickly, but I hope we don't have to go back to the hospital any time soon!

We have settled in to a really nice weeknight rhythm. We get home from work, hang out, play, and snuggle for a while. Then we all eat dinner together. After dinner is bathtime, which is necessary because you are such an enthusiastic eater. Then comes bedtime. We usually read a book, sing a lullaby, and nurse. On Wednesday nights I have a running group, so you hang out with Daddy. You two sure seem to have fun. Sometimes Daddy puts you in the stroller for a run, and other times you just play around the house. It's great that you two have some special time to be together.

You are so playful these days. You know how to play "peek-a-boo" and "bee-bye" (you play peek-a-boo with a blankie, and bee-bye with your bare hands). You don't always get your hands in front of your eyes- sometimes your hands end up over your ears- but you love it anyway. Bee-bye at dinnertime makes for a really messy game, with food in your hair and ears, but it's adorable.

You love to wave hello and goodbye, and you even blow kisses.  You love to kiss us right now, which is so sweet.  You usually have a big open mouth, and you've started sticking your tongue out, so kisses are extra wet and sloppy.  You went through a phase where you wouldn't kiss Daddy, but you seem to be over that now (which he appreciates more than he will publicly acknowledge!)

Since your 9 month birthday, you have gotten so close to walking! (Spoiler alert- you're walking now, but you weren't when you turned 11 months old last week.) It's incredible to watch you grow and develop- every day you make a new discovery. I'm amazed!

You like to do big girl things, like sit in your own rocking chair (or better yet, sit in my chair!)  You are VERY aware when we feed you baby food instead of what we're eating, and you're getting quite insistent that you get grown up food, too.

You have become much more expressive in the last few weeks- you have a range of sounds, a range of emotions, and a range of volumes. You're communicating remarkably well for someone who doesn't really have any words!

You are a delightful girl, and I'm so lucky to have you in my life.

I love you so very much!

What's going on?

Daddy was putting up window trim in the bathroom, and Julia walked down the hall with Meemaw to see what was going on!

Brusha brusha brusha

Julia loves to brush her eight(!) teeth so much that she gets pretty torqued when it's time to put the toothbrush away.

Eleven months old = loud!

Julia discovered this morning that banging pot lids together makes a great noise!
